Meet Max — the heart behind Max Okavango Safaris.
Max grew up on an island deep in the Okavango Delta, where wildlife, water and wilderness were part of everyday life. Those early years shaped his connection to the land and inspired a guiding career that now spans more than 21 years across northern Botswana.
People know Max for two things: his incredible depth of knowledge and his good‑humoured, easygoing personality. He has a natural way of making guests feel comfortable, whether he’s explaining animal behaviour, reading tracks in the sand, or helping someone use a camera for the very first time.
Photography has been part of Max’s life for many years, and he enjoys sharing what he knows in a gentle, practical way. He supports guests at any experience level — from beginners learning the basics to seasoned photographers looking for the right moment and the right light.
But for Max, guiding is about more than wildlife. He believes a great safari starts with a great team. His vision for Max Okavango Safaris is built on fairness, respect and creating better opportunities for the people who make each journey possible.
