Botswana Wilderness Photo Safari

12 Days • 11 Nights — Maun • Xini Lagoon • Xakanaxa • Khwai • Savuti • Chobe

A 12-day mobile safari built around light, patience and the pursuit of exceptional wildlife photography in Botswana.

The Botswana Wilderness Photography Safari takes you deep into the Okavango Delta and north through Khwai, Savuti and the Chobe Riverfront — spending more time in each area than a standard safari itinerary allows.

Game drives are structured around golden-hour light. Sightings are not rushed. Vehicle positioning is considered. Our expert local guides offer in-field coaching on composition, light and timing for anyone who wants it, with optional image review sessions around the fire each evening. The safari is open to all skill levels, from beginners shooting on a phone or compact camera to experienced photographers with long lenses. What matters is the shared interest in slowing down and seeing Botswana properly.

Overview

Your photographic journey begins in Maun and you travel straight into the Okavango Delta, spending time in Xini Lagoon and Xakanaxa before continuing through Khwai, Savuti and finally the Chobe Riverfront. Each area offers different light, scenery and wildlife behaviour — ideal for photographers who enjoy slow, patient time in the field.

Day‑by‑Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival in Maun → Xini Lagoon (Moremi Game Reserve)

After breakfast, begin your journey north toward the Okavango. Enter Moremi Game Reserve and continue to Xini Lagoon, a quiet, wildlife‑rich corner of the Delta. Arrive at your private camp for two nights and enjoy an afternoon game drive focused on light, composition and patient observation.

Day 2 — Exploring Xini Lagoon

Spend the day on slow, unhurried game drives through Xini's mix of shallow channels, open plains and shady woodlands. Your guide allows extended time with subjects — elephants feeding, lions resting, or a leopard moving through the reeds. Return to camp for dinner and optional night-sky photography.

Day 3 — Xini Lagoon (Continued Exploration)

A second full day in Xini gives you the opportunity to revisit promising areas from yesterday and follow up on any sightings. Wildlife behaviour changes with the light and the hour — early mornings and late afternoons here rarely disappoint. Return to camp for an image review session around the fire.

Day 4 — Xini → Xakanaxa (Moremi Game Reserve)

Begin a scenic game drive north toward Xakanaxa, one of the Delta’s most iconic photographic areas. Arrive at your new campsite in time for lunch and a rest before heading out for an afternoon drive. Xakanaxa’s year‑round water creates lush backdrops and strong wildlife activity.

Day 5 — Xakanaxa & Boat Tour (Water‑Level Photography)

Explore the Delta from the water on a boat tour through channels, lagoons and papyrus beds. This is ideal for low‑angle shots of hippos, crocodiles, herons and fish eagles. In the afternoon, enjoy a land‑based game drive where predators often move along the waterways.

Activity - 1 hour boat tour upgraded to 2 hours for bookings departing in 2027

Day 6 — Xakanaxa → Khwai Community Area

Travel east toward Khwai, a region known for strong predator activity and large elephant herds. Settle into your private campsite beneath tall riverine trees. Evening drives focus on golden‑hour light and behavioural photography.

Day 7 — Khwai & Mokoro Excursion

Take a mokoro excursion through quiet, lily‑filled channels — a peaceful way to capture reflections, textures and small Delta scenes. In the afternoon, enjoy a final game drive across the Khwai floodplains, where lions, wild dogs and buffalo often provide excellent photographic opportunities.

Activity - Mokoro experience with professional Poler.

Day 8 — Khwai → Savuti (Chobe National Park)

Travel north into the Savuti region, known for open plains, rocky outcrops and the historic Savuti Channel. Arrive at your private campsite for two nights and enjoy an afternoon game drive focused on predator behaviour and wide‑angle landscapes.

Day 9 — Exploring Savuti Spend a full day exploring Savuti's dramatic terrain.

This area is famous for lions, large elephant bulls, hyenas and intense predator interactions. Your guide positions the vehicle for the best light and behaviour, giving you time to wait for the moment rather than move on too quickly.

Day 10 — Savuti (Continued Exploration)

A second day in Savuti allows you to go deeper into areas explored yesterday and follow the movement of predator groups that may have shifted overnight. Savuti rewards patience — the longer you spend here, the more it reveals. End the day around the fire with time to review images before the final stretch of the journey.

Day 11 — Savuti → Chobe Riverfront (Boat Cruise)

Continue north to the Chobe Riverfront, where lush floodplains replace Savuti’s drier landscapes. Enjoy an afternoon boat cruise, ideal for low‑angle photography of elephants, buffalo and hippos as the sun sets.

Activity - Boat tour

Day 12 — Chobe → Kasane (Departure)

Enjoy a final early‑morning game drive along the riverfront before your safari ends in Kasane. Depart with a collection of images and memories from one of Africa’s most rewarding photographic journeys.
